Introduction for ‘We Are Proud to Present…’

Out now: the Modern Classics edition of We Are Proud to Present… by Pulitzer Prize winner Jackie Sibblies Drury. An incredibly good and topical play about a group of young actors who want to make a play about the Herero and Nama genocide in German South-West Africa. I had the honour of writing a comprehensive introduction for this edition, in which I combine a description of the historical context with an intuitive exploration of the underlying theme of race and representation.
